Lord, I was born a rambling man, trying to make a living and doing the best I can…

According to the Tennessee Advisory Council on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR), 60% of Hickman County’s labor force works outside the county. A fact often overlooked, 19% of the jobs in Hickman County are filled by people who live outside the county. (TACIR Report).

Inter-county commuting is to be expected in a free market economy. Though there are inefficiencies in it, it is a symbol of career mobility that doesn’t coincide with the desire to be residentially mobile.
The talking point for Hickman County: there are a lot of good workers who would like a shorter commute and a lot of good workers committed and willing to make a commute.
