Small Towns and Rural Economic Development

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam promises to bring a new focus to the economic development of rural Tennessee. “The Small Towns and Rural Economic Development Director within ECD will work with rural communities across the state to offer support, help develop proactive strategies to create jobs in those areas,” stated Governor Haslam.

In the recent budget hearings, Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty highlighted the Tennessee Main Street and Tennessee Downtowns Programs and reiterated Governor Haslam’s desire to enhance economic development in rural areas as well as all of Tennessee. Centerville was recently awarded inclusion in the Tennessee Downtowns Program, which is designed to assist in planning for and implementing downtown revitalization.
